We would like to remind you of the importance of having a working smoke alarm and preferably a fire blanket in place in your home. Regularly check that the smoke alarm is working properly.

Safe battery management

More and more people have larger rechargeable batteries at home, for example from electric bicycles. 
Good advice when charging batteries: 

• Charge when you are awake and at home, near a working smoke alarm.
• Avoid charging in your escape route, in the hall.
• Charge on a flat and hard surface, free from flammable furnishings.
• Use the original charger and make sure the charger and cord are intact.
• Charge directly into the charging socket, avoid extension cords and power strips.
• Unplug the cord when you are finished charging. 
• Pay attention to damage, if the battery has been dropped, or if it is abnormally hot. 
• Store the battery indoors when not in use, at a temperature between 10-20 degrees. 

Here's what to do if a fire starts:

• If there is smoke or a fire in a battery, evacuate and call 112.
• If detected early, you can try to extinguish the fire with a fire blanket or fire extinguisher.
• Proceed with extreme caution and avoid inhaling the fumes.
